Little known fact: Even though I am now a Glasgow based wedding photographer I was actually born and bred in Orkney but left as many do to go to university. There I fell in love with a Glasgow girl and never moved back. But like many an ex-pat I do look forward an opportunities to go back and was therefore delighted when Sarah and David asked me to photograph their Orkney Wedding.
On the wedding day we were so lucky with the weather, as it had a been a bit wet and drizzly all week leading up to the day. With the weather only breaking a couple of hours before the service.
The whole day was perfect, with the ceremony being held in the very grand St. Magnus Cathedral followed by family photos in Tankerness House Gardens (as the Kirkwall City Pipe Band practiced beside us). Bumping into a Japanese lady in her traditional Japanese Kimono and visiting a rather large deck chair on our walk to the reception. With a fantastic outdoor Grand March on the pier in Kirkwall Harbour to the sound of the bagpipes and we rounded of the night with a beautiful sunset photo down on the pier with their venue the Kirkwall Hotel in the back ground.
I am pleased to say I have two more Orkney wedding this coming summer, bookending our annual family holiday back to the homeland.
Please enjoy a selection of the photographs from their day.
